Afionas itself is small, scenic and atmospheric. It is not a classic beach resort with a long strip and nightlife. It is a viewpoint village, a sunset dinner spot, a hiking base and one of the best places in Corfu for dramatic scenery.

Where are Afionas and Porto Timoni?
Afionas is in north-west Corfu, above Agios Georgios Pagon and close to Arillas, Agios Stefanos NW and Sidari. The village sits on a headland with views over the Ionian Sea, the Diapontia Islands, Agios Georgios Bay and the coastline towards Porto Timoni.
Porto Timoni sits below Afionas on the coast and is reached either by walking down from the village or by boat from nearby Agios Georgios Pagon.

What is Afionas like?

Porto Timoni Beach
Porto Timoni is one of Corfu’s most famous beaches and one of the most beautiful natural spots on the island. It is often described as a double beach because two separate coves sit back-to-back, divided by a narrow strip of land.
One side faces towards Agios Georgios Pagon and the open west coast. The other side faces a more sheltered bay. The colours of the water can be incredible, especially when viewed from the path above.
Porto Timoni is not an organised beach. There are no proper beach bars, restaurants, sunbed rows, shops or toilets down on the beach. That is part of its appeal, but it also means you need to prepare properly.

The Porto Timoni hike from Afionas
The most famous way to reach Porto Timoni is by walking down from Afionas village. The route starts near the village and descends along a rocky, uneven path towards the double beach.
The walk down is often described as around 20–45 minutes depending on fitness, footwear, heat and how often you stop for photos. The walk back up is harder, especially in summer.
The path is steep, rocky and exposed in places. It is not a gentle paved promenade. You need proper footwear, water, sun protection and enough energy for the climb back.

Is Porto Timoni suitable for children?

The best part is the view from above before you reach the beach. This is where you get the famous photo of the two coves.
Take your time, wear proper shoes and do not underestimate the climb back.
2. Photograph the Porto Timoni viewpoint
Even if you do not hike all the way down, the viewpoint on the path is worth visiting. This is where you see the classic double-beach shape, with blue water on both sides.
Go early for fewer people, or later in the day for softer light.

3. Swim at Porto Timoni

Best time to visit Afionas and Porto Timoni
Afionas and Porto Timoni are best from May to October.
May and June are lovely if you want warm weather, green scenery and fewer crowds than peak summer. July and August are the busiest, hottest and most crowded months, especially on the Porto Timoni path and around sunset restaurants. September is one of the best months for warm sea, softer light and slightly calmer conditions.
April and October can be beautiful for walking and village visits, but some restaurants, boat services and facilities may operate reduced hours.
For the Porto Timoni hike, June and September are especially good because the weather is warm but usually more manageable than August.
